I’ve got a 92 4x4 with a 2” lift and 31’s that works beyond my expectations where ever I take it, with one exception. Whenever I land hard on the dunes at speed, my front suspension maxes out and the tires smack the top of the wheel wells. I’m looking for something that will allow nearly the same travel, but will not bottom out so hard. Slowing down is not an option, and a bigger lift is way out of my price range. This is all I have thought of so far and could use some input.
Has anyone heard anything, good or bad, about “air-lift” front springs? I have been considering them, but don’t really know anything about them and could use some info. They might not even be available for a lifted ‘plorer, but I thought they might be worth a shot.
This is a little crazy, but I noticed it today and it got me thinking. The factory front springs for an explorer and a jeep TJ are about the same diameter and look like they might swap. The TJ springs are thinner and have fewer coils, but are about 3 inches taller. Suspension kits for jeeps are everywhere, so it stands to reason that the ideal spring is out there some where. I was thinking about swapping in the TJ springs just to see what happened.
I know some of you guys have played with just about every setup imaginable, so tell me what you think will work.
