I was talking to a friend this morning when I got out of work and he as well as I was just curious how the front suspension works on my Explorer it is a 96' 4x4. I see the rear has leaf springs and shocks as expected but the front is wered it has the shock but no spring?? all that we can guess is that the spring or something is on the torshion bars? another thing when the Lift comes out for the 98'-00' it is 4" we think that 35"'s will fit but would it be better to go with 33"'s for a fiew things for more wheel travel and stuff into the wells. I am just curious on what would work best because out here in New England there isent many places where I can get info. I am still curious if any one knows of any 4x4 shops out here that I may go to?

The torsion bars are the 'springs'. They move in a twisting motion (torque) and that is what gives you your front suspension. If you look under the front end they are the two long bars that go from the A arms to the back. This great evil known as torsion bars is the main reason lift kits cost thousands of dollars these days.
