abs could be easy ,, could be as simple as a sensor in the rear pumpkin,, , or as bad as a wheel bearing,

not much difficult there,,

what next

two new front bearings, rear dont have play , speedo works perfect, seems to be dead ABS ie no power to unit, initial look fuses ok so gonna have a better look at weekend

car idles not bad far a little then hunts and might or might not settle down, but for driving nippiest explorer used now, mind you there is I feel still a we roughness even at speed......

Yep know where your coming from, 1 x blown engine, no ABS, play in the rear half shaft, no hand brake shoes, front fogs corroded and not working, 2x front wheel bearings plus any thing else that throws itself up. The fact that it was MOT'd 2 weeks before I bought it and it's only done around 350 miles makes me wonder if the tester even turned the engine on let alone looked at it. I think I might have to go round with a sharp stick.

getting better

Yes finally have it running a treat, so smooth and quick, even off standing start and fuel consumption excellent;)

gave up with LPG for the moment:thumbdwn:

Just got ABS to sort and spngy brakes..... after pipes n caliper changes .... ABS seems electrically dead so will be checking along those lines until I see where fault lies

weekend after sitting 4 months put the bits back on from engine I borrowed to check the newer car ie this one and after 4 turns of engine runnning sweet as anything ..... bahhh humbug so will need to put back the braking system and MOT and hey I might eventually have two good explorers

I had a crappy buy on ebay too, back in 05, I purchased a 97 XL, £2500, half the price of any other 4x4 in the area, took it out, all looked good... no warning lights, couldn't hear a rattle etc... gave the guy my money... and the next day, all the timing on the passenger side slipped... cost me £3k to get it fixed... since then though, it's been faultless... even though I left it back in the UK 3yrs ago when I moved to Canada...
