After spending 20 minutes on my '01 trying to get the fuel lines off the filter with the 5/16 inch disconnect tool, I tried the 3/8 inch size and lines just about popped off! Hope this saves a few of you some time. The 5/16 inch tool only LOOKS like the one to use, as it is a snug fit over the filter nipple, but you really need the larger 3/8 inch tool to spread the internal clamp in the line which releases the filter.

Also, don't forget to relieve the fuel pressure first. Only lost a few tablespoons of gas when disconnecting the lines.

the tool I got from NAPA has both sizes on the same tool (looks like a double pair of scissors kinda). I agree, gotta use the bigger one. The only thing I don't necessarily agree on is releasing fuel pressure. I've done the fuel filter on about 7-8 vehicles (since I've got the tool everyone wants to do it at my house), I've tried it with and without releasing the pressure first, and each time got about the same amount of fuel spilled and it was never more then a few tablespoons, except for what came out of the filter when I finally got the filter removed.
