Fuel gauge problems.

Hello all...here's my problem... my gas gauge never goes below like 3/4 full. When I fill it it goes up past the F and when the fuel is running down never gets close to E at all...could this be in the sending unit and if so do I have to drop the tank to get at it??

Welcome to this forum! You have to drop the tank in order to replace the sending unit.

My wife's 89 aerostar had the same problem and I just got through fixing it. Yep it was the sender. The junk yard man had about a hundred Ford pump/sender units on the shelf and he let me look through them. Finally found one from a 93 Aerostar. Gave him 20 bucks. Turned out the pump was better than the old one and it fixed the hard starting problem also. The old one was leaking pressure from the factory hose clamps inside the tank.

Good luck it's kind of a nasty job but you can do it.
