Fuel pump compatibility between model years.

I'm about to buy an extra fuel pump for my '94 3.0. Checking local sources it appears there's differences between '86-89 pumps and the later '90-97 pumps.

So what's different?,... and will the earlier pump fit my '94?

I don't know if the pump is different, but the fuel sending unit is calibrated for a different size tank. The older models had a 17 gallon tank, and the later ones had a 21 gallon tank.
