Hi all. There seems to be two sizes on the fuel pump terminals, 1/4" and 3/32". I can't figure out which pump to order; depending on which terminal size I have (2000 Sport 4.0 OHV).

Is there a way to determine the terminal size, other than removing the pump first? Perhaps by build date?

Thanks,
ROE

there's no way to know until you remove the pump. my 2000 Mountaineer had the pump with the thin terminal. most replacement pumps have the wide terminal. the pump i bought came with a jumper wire to attach wide to thin (which it turned out i needed). some replacement pumps come with a replacement terminal, which you have to splice/crimp in. either way, not a big deal.

Thanks for the info Koda.

I ordered the pump with the thin terminals, since
both our vehicles are 2000s. It appears to come with a
jumper wire, as you mentioned. It's a Bosch.

Bosch makes a good pump. don't forget to change the in-tank sock filter (Bosch pump may come with one) and your regular fuel filter (even if recently changed). the hardest part of the job for me was getting the fuel line disconnected at the tank. i struggled with mine until i found the right tool, which turned out to be a stand-alone 3/8 aluminum tool. popped it off in seconds. i bought a set of line disconnect tools at AutoZone (OEM brand) for around $20. if you've ever changed your regular fuel filter, which seems to like the 5/16 size, you need to use the same tricks on the tank line. if you run into any other snags let me know and i'll be happy to give you the benefit of my experience.

Thanks Koda. I'm cutting an access hole under the
rear seat, rather than dropping the tank. Might just
invest in a better set of line tools too. Mine are the
ElCheapo plastic type...

yeah, the plastic type line disco tool was what i started with. they were absolutely useless for the fuel tank connection. dropping the tank is really easy unless you have rust to deal with (i had zero rust - gotta love the south). good luck.
