Gas sensor readin says 50 miles till empty but still have well over 1/4 tank on gauge

I have a 06 limited v8 and the center screen will tell me I only have 50 miles to empty but the gauge still says i have a 1/4 tank. Because of this i have to keep resetting the screen

They all come on about then. Mine did on my way to work today. I get in its about 1/4 tank, and shortly after the low fuel light is on. at about 50 miles.

The computer calculates the reamining fuel and your MPG average, when that result equals 50 miles, it warns you. Clear the warning it and it will warn you again at 40 to go, then 30 etc.

I haven't tried this but, if you're freeway driving, try to reset the MPG average. You'll probably be getting 19-20 and the warning shouldn't come on until you only have about 2.5 gallons left (1/8 tank)

It the warning chimes at 1/4 tank, it tells me you're doing a lot of city driving and probably getting 12-13mpg?

Im doing majority of highway riding and im getting about 20-22 mph. I had one in my 04 F150 and know how it works and what it is supposed to do. My problem is that it comes on giving me a false reading of only 50 miles left when i have more then 100 miles to go. It happened 2 days after I bought it and since have filled up the tank and am at a quarter tank again and it is doing it again. I called the dealer and they said that it sounds like the computer is off with its settings. I was just wondering if there was a way to clear the computer and let it reset on itself and recalculate the position in which it says i have 50 miles left.

I may be wrong but I'll assume yours is like the one in my 03 Aviator.

What is it showing for your average MPG right now?

im reading about 21-22 mpg

I've noticed that on both of my Fords, the gauge can read almost empty and it only takes 13.8 gals to fill it. The manual says it has a 23 gal tank. So it seems that Ford keeps the last 10 gals in reserve.
