I have a gas smell coming into the passenger cabin when driving. Twice I've noticed it at startup; 5 times I've noticed it at all. It's intermittent... the shop couldn't recreate it. When I do smell it, I have to roll down windows, even in 20 degree weather because of the insuing headache (and because I don't want to "go to sleep" while driving).

I've searched, and I've known/read about the exhaust manifold bolts issue. I've checked all spark plugs to make sure they are seated properly and not loose. Is there anything else this gas smell could be?

Check fuel filter? It is located pretty much underneath or directly behind the passenger seat on the underside. I noticed a mild odor before I replaced mine, it was so clogged that it was leaking out past the connectors.

Have you noticed any performance issues? Do you think you're losing quite a bit of fuel?

Thanks.

I've had it since July, and it's been in and out of a shop half the time, so I don't have anything to judge it's performance with in terms of "normal" mileage. Thanks for the tips on checking the fuel filter. I'm sure it probably needs replaced anyway after 10 years.
