Hello Explorer-Land

I need some clarification on whether my '18 Platinum is just GDI or also PFI.

My question is in regards to preventative maintenance for valve deposits.

I currently feed the EX with 93 octane from a top-tier supplier. She runs better, more power and a couple MPG's as well. Overall, I just enjoy the acceleration improvement. BUT, with GDI, valve deposits can be an issue over time. I am aware that there are products specifically designed to help with this challenge but I read where some EB engines of 2018 have both direct and port injection.

Is this a "real" concern?

Does my '18 have direct AND port injection?

Has anyone had issues with this challenge?

Thanks ahead and carry on !

It does not have dual injection.

The 2nd gen 3.5 has it but those are RWD engines, not in the 5th gen.

That is exactly what I had gleaned from my research. Thanks for your reply

I'm a member of one of the expedition forums since we have a '17 expy. Several of the guys there recommend 93 top tier, full synthetic oil since the 15's to 17's are just direct injection. Several of them run JLT or other brand catch cans as well. I believe there's one available for the 18 Explorer ecoboost.
