I was thinking of installing some small Red marker lights in my wheel wells tomorrow. however it was questioned if it would be ok in the rear being the wheel well has the gas tank tube and filler right by the wheel well. Would this potentionally be a very bad situation to have a light in the wheel well on while refilling?

thanks
ryan

should be fine, as long as it is already on prior to being introduced to possible vapors..... a spark that an electrical circuit creates upon turning on is what will ignite gas vapors...... also, i would check legality... i know that you are not allowed to have red anything face other than to the rear of the vehicle......

yeah but it would basically be for show, and our cops are very easy going about this type of thing

so i should be ok? I'd probalby turn them off just to be safe prior to filling up and keep them off for a few mins after wards....should be fine, i'd hate to freakin explode...

there is actually probably more risk of exploding if you have a cell phone on near a gas station at all or leave the keys in the ignition with the radio on when filling up.... you will be fine

aww you just had to throw that disclaimer in there, i was goign to tell my family if i blow up go after jimabena74, but your one step ahead of me ;)

The actual light itself would never be the problem, it would be a loose wire that would touch bare metal to cause a spark that would be the problem.

Just make sure all then connections are either covered with heat shrink tubing, or taped really well, and you will be good to go.

Disclaimer: If you blow up, don't sue Crankcase, as the chances of actually blowing up rom a 12V marker light are 1:1,000,000 :D

let me get that straight, the odds of blowing up are 1 to 0? as indicated by the # one [1] then the colon [:] the several 0s [000,000] those are bad odds :)

Doh!

Fixed:D

i knew what you meant, i just wanted to give you a hard time about it ;)

yeah though, you should be fine in putting a light in the wells as long as they are properly insulated from tirespray and stuff like that.... the wheelwells see a lot of abuse that most people never notice......

yeah, i'd silicione the crap out of them to make them as water tight as i can, they are made for exterior use so they should be ok to begin with.....and as long as it doesn't spark (arch), which it shouldn't, while i'm filling up with gas i should be okay...

Also make sure the gas cant spill and hit the hot bulb and break the bulb causing a spark and who knows what after that......
