Hey fellas,

I just recently purchased a 93 Eddie Bauer Explorer. It has the JBL system in it, however its a tape deck.

I read in my manual that i have an 80 watt amp for my speakers and then another one for the small subwoofer in the storage area.

If I were to get an aftermarket cd head unit, what is involved with the amps that are there? I won't be upgrading the speakers for a good while yet, but i hate not havin a cd player. should i use them or just use the deck's own power?

thanks guys,

leo

you will get a much cleaner and fuller sound at high volumes if you bypass the factory amp. run the door speakers off the headunit.

Aftermarket cd

I had the similar factory set-up, but I bought my cd deck from crutchfield (www.crutchfield.com) and they highly recommended bypassing the factory amp(s). If buy the cd deck from them, they supply all the directions and harness(s) for the deck and to bypass the amps. If you are planning to spend over $250 and your going with crutchfield, contact me first and I can save you $25 on your order.
