GHETTO COLD AIR INDUCTION

Ok guys i know your going to laugh at me, but i swear to the mother mary (don't worry im not catholic) that i got a HUGE improvement in gas mileage and power. Here is what i did: I went to Lowe's and bought about 16 feet of 2.5 inch plastic hose. I Then bought 6 funnels. I drilled the funnels into the bottom space of my front bumper. I then managed to get all six hoses connected into one long one that goes straight into a brand new hold i made in my airbox. They all connect except for the one closest to my airbox, which has its on hose going straight into the box (i had extra hose and i was bored). The hoses that connect the funnel the the singular hose that runs into my airbox, are at an angle as to "point" the air in a way that it rushes into my airbox. THIS WORKS. End of discussion. I noticed an immediate feeling of a fast vehicle. It is extremely loud too. Go ahead and make fun of me, my friends call my explorer "Vaccuum Tube" now. But i can beat all their beamers (318's). I also beat my friends 96 dodge 5.9 liter ram. I know your going to make fun of me, go ahead, but then we shall race. If you try to say that they wont add much air into the airbox, you are wrong. I tested it out. I had all 16 feet of hose with a funnel on one end and i coiled it up and put the bundle in the passenger side seat. I put the funnel end out the window, and then i put the other end (non funnel end) to my face. I then proceeded to drive 20-60 miles an hour. HOlY CRAP! It blows air like a ****! And that was with ONE funnel too! I have 6! There are two blue ones and four yellow ones and they look really ugly but i will be painting them black. I also know that you think i am actually not getting much air to my engine, but i pointed the funnels upward so they go straight through my air filter. It hauls! Man, this and flowmaster 50's, a superchip and i will be almost fast. If you have any insults please feel free. I get enough from my friends so im used to it. I WONT take any offense so go ahead and shoot away. Please remember i am 16 and am having fun with all of this.

h20......if you have enough turns in it, i wouldn't think that you should have a problem...but i would be worried about it gettin in there...maybe this is a new step towards a ghetto snorkle for us offroaders...hmm....

Well, about the water, i dont think anything will happen because there are ripples in the hose and also they bend a lot and then when they go to my airbox it is like a straight up and down 3 feet so....

OK....I would definetly LOVE to see some pics of all that...especially under the hood! Hey man....you're not gonna get many insults here...whatever works for you. Everyone has their own ideas. The only problem I see is that your filter will probably get very dirty very quickly. I would definetly invest in a K&N or an Amsoil intake filter(air filter), and maybe even cover the funnel intakes with something, some have suggested pantyhose to cover a home made cold induction tube, maybe some mesh screen to at least keep large objects(like rocks) outa your intake. Anyway..have fun man!

RU DAWG! You are brilliant! PANTY HOSE! only problem is i have to hmmm.... buy them... or steal them... naww. But i do like that idea. I think it would also soak up some moisture too.... wont it? A guy at said it is a good idea but i could have done it with better hose... I am going to paint them black and then i am going to put a custom screen on the front of my bumper and paint the funnels black.

yeah....the wheels turning is a disease.....and i am horribly strickin....sometimes i even show up to work, and look like i just lost the boxing prize fight. People ask me, didn't you sleep well last night? im like..no....they say...have too much cafiene? i say,"no, i just spent most of the night thinking of how to do *insert various mod here* to my explorer..." Man...you should see the looks i get!! Confusion, curiousness...and some just downright fear.....lol

I like the panty hose idea...but that seems to me like it would restrict a lot of the ramming force of airflow. dirt, i wouldn't be so worried about as long as you have a cleanable filter. and to me, with it going stright up like that, i wouldn't see any problems! GET SOME PICS FOR US, MAN!!!!!! i wanna see it!!

Ok guys, im taking my exploder into the shop next week to get the tensioner thingy under recall for my SOHC. But the only way my ol' man will take it in is if i 'toned' down the funnels. So i completely took them all off and put two back on. This time i made the hoses straighter, and i bent them both towards the filter. Now it is a power house! I bet i got maybe around 5 horse maybe 6-7. It sounds better too. The other thing is that it looks better too. Instead of 6 funnels on my bumper, i have 1 next to each foglight (so i have two total). I am trying to find someone with a digital camera. My next mod... a light bar.

I would also like to tell you guys about the best mod i've done yet (i've only done two). A PA! Also known as a loudspeaker. I mounted a cb under my seat during christmas break. It has a jack in the back for a loudspeaker. It uses a 13.5 amp for the actual loudspeaker and cb. So i decided insteak of clipping into my lighter, i would use my fuse box. It is a cobra cb. THE LOUD SPEAKER IS REALLY REALLY loud. I swear it added about 35 hp and maybe give or take about 75 torque. It is very useful when someone does pulls in front of me at a 4-way stop, or when someone cuts me off, or someone is speeding, or for racing. For example, a week ago i found myself sitting on highway 620 next to a trans am. instead of sounding like a queer and revving my pansy 4.0L, i was sophisticated and asked him over my PA. I won't finish the story because you KNOW what happened. We raced at three different lights and i got killed every single time. But oh well, only troll and a hand picked few can go fast. But hey, i can offroad. Back to my point! GET A PA AND SOME FUNNELS AND YOU CAN BE LIKE ME.

LOL! i love the part about you testing it out with a funnel hangin out the window, sounds like somthin i would do! ya ive been playin with the same idea too, but havint had the time to put it all in but ill get there eventually. ya, those PA are really fun, ive got one with dual loudspeakers and a 200 watt amp, man that thing will trun some heads! whats really fun is to rub the mike on your leg cause it akes really wierd noises and just watch people look around trying to find out where its coming from(the 4 foot antenna on the roof kinda gives it away but its still fun). have fun man! but look out for cops, cause i here its a hefty fine if you get caught usin one on the streets.

How did you do the dual speakers with a 200 something watt amp? Man that would be fun. When i get my light bar im going the mount the speaker up there and put a KC light cap on it or something. 2001 thanks for the body lift write up. Im gonna do that real soon.

Ok, i have a question. How can i persuade my dad into letting me do the body lift and torsion bar/shackles? Im just about 17. Have any of you guys had to bribe a mom or dad? Out of the kindness of your hearts, could i ask anyone to make a smart reason (BS or no) how 33/12.5's would be safer than stocks, and how a body lift doesnt "raise the center of gravity much" and how im only going to be raising the actualy "center of gravity" 2 inches? Id really appreciate it. Id print it out and let him read it.

Real Ram Air

I'll tell ya you were close, a company sells one just like that but pleasing to the eye too. I bought a ram air kit from Dead Link Removed for my 87 Mustang GT, which is for sale buy the way. The kit replaced the old air box, came with a big conical K&N, and had a big scoop that mounted under the front air dam. It boosted the power a lot, they claim 15 HP (30 HP if you buy the underdrive pullies too). The tubing that it used was very similar to clothes dryer hose, it was about 4-6in in diameter. It takes in the cool air makes a big difference I was shocked.
I too will take something apart just to do it always looking for something to get the wheels turning more!
I haven't even gotten my Explorer yet and I'm already here!

a body lift is in no way dangerous, as long as the tires are also changed out. the stock explorer tires are maybe
8-9 inches wide?? with 33x12.5 tires, he will now be about 2 inches wider on each side. so that is 4 total inches more width. And of course we all know..."wider is better" also, there will be more tire touching the ground which also provides better traction and a more stable ride. so these 4 inches will more than compensate for the body lift.
