I went nutz last week..

Wasn't really shopping for another Plory but was in lil ol town down the road and wandered into a lot and saw this extremely clean '96 Explorer Limited with ALL options on the lot.. I figured.. naw.. too pricey.. but actually went into the office to talk to a sales guy.
I'd rather be thrown up on in a mosh pit than talk to a car salesman but I HAD to get the skinny on this Limited..

105k miles, no leaks, solid, Southern title with no rust anywhere, OD disengaged when brakes tapped (YOU gotta check that on a used 4spd) all systems go and even had good set of Michelins on it...

I RAN to an ATM next door and grabbed down payment cash.. I pick it up Saturday..
Will be selling my dearly beloved '93 Plory...
Can't have more than two Explorers at once...
Did I do ok on this?

I even did the CarFax title search on it and I'll be the second owner, not a leaser and never been hit, etc... clean all around....
Did I roll sevens?

ONLY problem...
The subwoofer doesn't work...
My Probe GT had a dead woofer when I bought it and just had to reconnect it...
Are there any specific things to check on these sub woofers like known problems?

Pearlescent White...
I'll have to stick a Harley-Davidson tag on the front to macho it up a bit...
Otherwise...
Very happy in Indiana...

sounds good, v6 or v8?

when i got explorer the sub didnt work either, first unscrew the sub (there are 4 screws under that foam padding around the sub) and make sure the connections are good and there are no loose wires. if thats fine and it still dosent work, unscrew the sub amp (the one that the sub plugs into) and open it up (youll need a little star screwdriver i think its called a torx screw driver but i dont know) . mine was fried inside in a few places and so inorder to fix it i think youd have to get a new factory amp.

oh an congradulations on the new X, sounds like a really good deal you got there.

Thanks fer the congrats guys.

I was going to hold out for a V8 but this was to good to pass up....
I've read where the V8 and the V6 run pretty close when 0-60 is an issue...
The V8 has more low end and torque for towing..
Sound right?
I wanted the V8 cause of all the Mustang mods available.
Had a REAL fast Lincoln LSC that spanked "faster" cars regularly.... Love that 302

Cool...
Thanks for the info....
I'm gonna open up the woofer this weekend...
Keepin my fingers crossed for bad connections..
Ever price the amplifier?
Scary?

Thanx again..

Stilbo, unfortunately your explorer won't be anywhere near as fast as a V8 4-door because it's got the old OHV 4.0. That's ok though, as it is a very reliable motor. And it should have enough power to maneuver your limited in traffic with ease (assuming it's in a good state of tune).

Congratulations with your purchase!

Sub doesn't work huh? I'd use that as an excuse to buy a whole new sound system, LOL. Good find. Hope you're happy with it

ludus, thats exactly what im doing... using it as an excuse to get a new system. :)

Stilbo: You REALLY got a good price! I paid much more for my 1996 Limited Edition two months ago. Same color..Ivory Pearl..5.0L V-8 3.73LS axle. Mine has 92K on it. I too, have my 93 EB I bought new and it is still a very nice vehicle with absolutely no problems at the moment. At 120K it does not use any oil still. Used Mobil 1 in it since new. This V-8 does not use any oil either. Surprisingly the 5.0L V-8 is just about as economical milage wise. I get 22 MPG highway on my 93 4.0L and 21 MPG on my 96 Limited V-8. The 4.0L in your 96 is a very good one and is a stout puller. Like you, I am going to have to make a choice eventually as to which one I keep. What axle ratio do you have?
