I've found the best way to change it is first thing in teh morning. After sitting overnight, I never have a drop drip from the filter when I crack the seal.
Also, Ford is making some progress on the filter front. On my parents' Mariner Hybrid, they went to a canister style filter, where all you replace is the element. It sits down inside a reservoir right up on top of the engine and is a piece of cake to change! Heck, you don't even need to crawl underneat for that part!
