Getting a new truck
I know, it's not an Explorer... at least it's a Ford.
The other day I was just looking around on autotrader.com, checking out some trucks for sale. Found a 99 Ranger 4x4 for only $10,900 that caught my eye. Black/graphite, extended cab, 4.0L... that's all it listed, so I figured I'd call the guy, just for kicks. Turns out its an automatic, has the offroad package, and has 49K miles... and he dropped the price to $9,990! At this point I'm nearly freaking out. This is the EXACT truck I've been wanting since I sold my first Ranger, but I couldn't afford it.
Called the guy last night to see if I could look at it today, and I went out there this morning to see/drive it. When I got there, I saw it was a stepside (didn't have a pic in the ad), which is a definite plus. It has a dent in the tailgate about the size of a nickel, and the rear bumper is a little beat up from towing a small pop-up camper that they had. Nothing major, it can be cleaned up quite a bit with a little effort. Besides, he's asking under $10K for a truck that blue books at $14K, can't complain too much! Has fairly new Firestone Wilderness AT's on it, so those can be replaced for free. The inside of the bed is pretty scratched up, but I want to get it LineX'ed anyways. Interior is in perfect shape, engine is clean, and it drives great. All it needs is a full detailing, and it'll be a very sweet truck.
Came home today and talked to my dad about it, and he's cool with me getting it. He didn't want me spending all the money on my Explorer for new gears, tires, etc, and I was having second thoughts about it as well. My folks are gonna front me the money to buy it, that way I can get it before I sell my Explorer, and then I'll just pay them back after I sell the Ex.
Gonna keep my wheels and tires that are on my Explorer now and put them on the Ranger, and do a torsion twist and either a block or add-a-leaf in the rear for about a 2" lift. I'm gonna put my Kenwood CD player and 2 12's from my Explorer in the truck as well. Planning to get clear corners, chrome step bars, a new grille (painted shell with full billet insert), dual exhaust with a Flowmaster 50 series, white faced guages, tint the front windows, LineX, and build a custom sub box for 2 12's, wrapped in graphite vinyl with a plexi window for the amp lighted by some blue neon.
Here's a couple pics, I'll be sure to take more when I get it and do a full detail job on it. Anyone wanna buy a 94 Explorer with a few mods?
