Hello all... I'm a muscle car guy that got muscled into buying a family vehicle when the kids kept coming along...

We bought our 95 Explorer in 2003 with 145k miles on it for a cheap (at the time) $3500. We're around 200k, now... and, with the exception of some bad luck with a couple transmissions (and a cracked coolant junction which helped ruin one), we've been able to keep it together and running well.

It is our first 4 wheel drive, and after sweating bullets driving the classics to work in bad weather for years, it was a breath of fresh air to have confidence that you were going to make it to where you needed to go.

Anyhow... I've been reading through the forums for the past couple of hours and it's great to have an information source such as this outside of a Haynes Manual... and the ever so expensive, trial and error...

LOL... you can always tell those 5.0s... I have one in a 79 RWD
F100 that I use around the yard out of an 87 Lincoln. The stall converter doesn't do a lot for me when it gets muddy, though...

My first car was a 75 4 door Maverick... came with a 250 w/ 3 on the tree... by the time i was done, that thing had a Hilborn scoop out the hood and used to look for the "new" 5.0s to run light to light. Fun ... but stupid.... days.

These days, our barn has 68, 72, 05, and 07 ponies... still have an ongoing 72 Maverick project in the garage, but that's been put on hold for a couple presidential cycles... and a handful of kids.

lol all good bro

The 302 I had in my Maverick was a 69 block... and I put a set of Windsor Jr heads and a 268 comp cam (I didn't have the pistons notched) with a Holley 700 manual DP (though it ran better with the 600 vacuum secondaries) and a Edelbrock Performer RPM...

I'll tell you though... I couldn't believe the out of the box power in the 4.6Ls when I got one, and more than 2xs the fuel economy than the old beast ever had... and handles a heck of a lot better. :D
