- 2002 Explorer Limited 4.6
Hey folks...Jason here.
Recently did a trade for a 2002 Explorer Limited 4.6 and a week after the trade I had a timing chain guide break...tough luck!
Anyway, this forum has been great to keep me informed as to the process of the repair. I decided to fix my current engine (154K) and keep this vehicle on the road...It's really quite a nice ride, and it's my third car, so it should last a long time with occassional driving and towing.
Currently, the engine is out and I'm having everything done that can be done without cracking the engine all the way open...bearings, seals, oil pump, new pickup tube, as much of a refresh as possible. Also, replacing all shocks/struts (were leaking) and having it gone over with a fine tooth comb. My mechanic is family, so I'm not worried about gouging and making unneeded repairs.
Good news is the tranny was rebuilt 20k ago (receipts with warranty to prove it) and everything else seems tight. It's got it's glitches (need to figure out why the garage door opener isn't working and the keyless entry pad) but for the age, I'm impressed at how clean it is.
Anyway, thanks for this treasure trove of information!
