A newbie needs some help...and I can't find a direct answer in any other posts I have searched. I purchased a MTX amplified Thunderform off of Ebay and installed it myself but it came with no instructions. It has a little gren LED on it which lights up when there is power to the amp. Well, if you run the power wire straight to the battery like I did won't this light always stay lit up even when my 2000 Explorer Sport is off? The wiring harness comes with a 3 foot long "remote" wire. I tested the wires which run closeby until I found one which has 0 Volts as soon as the vehicle is shut down, and 12 Volts as soon as it is turned on, and attached the remote wire to this point but the green LED still always stays on! My question is is this the way it is supposed to be? Should my amp always be on or have I connected the wires wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated!:banghead:

Well, I don't know much, but I will try to help.

The remote wire should be hooked up to the antenna lead on the back of your head unit. This is what signals the amp to turn on/off.

Weird though that with 0 volts applied to it that it would stay on..... no suggestions there, sorry.

Good luck.

I may be wrong

but on an older Pioneer amp I used to have, there was a green light that stayed on all the time, and a red one that meant the amp was on. I believe the constant current for the amp was designed to keep the circuits active or from getting too cold. Or like I said I could be wrong.

Thanks for the replies guys but I take it that neither of you own an amplified MTX Thunderform like mine. Maybe someone who owns one can let me know if their green LED stays on all the time, or does it turn off when the radio or vehicle is turned off? It shoudn't matter whether I connect my remote line to the power antenna line or any other line as long as the line goes 0 volts when the vehicle is off and 12 volts when the vehicle is on should it? Thanks.

Okay, Here the solution if i can word it right. ON my amp when the radio is turn on the red led on it shows that the amp is getting power and is working that is all. the light does.
ON yours it the same thing if the mtx enclosure that replcae the exist storage unit on the passanger side, or just any amp for seperate subs.
On a normal installation of any amp their three wires that go to amp along with either a pair or two pair RCA wires.
RED WIRE IS 12VOLT POWER SOURCE
BLACK WIRE IS GROUND
BLUE WIRE IS REMOTE TURN ON

Then the pair of RCA wires

The RED wire is the Power which comes ftom the battery +
The Black Wire is connected to the chassis
These two wire help form a circuit or circle for the power to circuit through. The RCA Wires are used to send impulse of electricaty thrught the wires to the amp which then sends it along to the subs or speakers.
The BLUE WIRE is the remote which tells the amp to turn on to translate the energy to music/impluses. Then the radio is off the REMOTE WIRE has no power in it what so ever.
