grill is blackening

my stock grill is blackening on the leading edges of it its like i went through a coal pit but it wont come off, i have scrubbed and scrubbed it. i was wondering what this is fro mand if i cant fix this

Sounds like the silver paint is wearing off. The grille is black behind it, so it's the black showing through and not just something on it.

My advice:
Sand that stupid silver paint off and repaint it in semi-gloss black. Looks 1000 times better!
