hard to shift

i have a 92 explorer xlt and now its about impossible to shift into first at a stop and shifting into seconds hard what is causing this

Is it the clutch going bad maybe?

try putting it in a higher gear then down into first mine does that too if i have it in neutral and let the clutch out its hard to get back into first i just put it in 3rd or 4th and then back into first

Only first and second is hard to shift into? How about other gears when you are stopped? I'm trying to remember the inards of the tranny from pics but it seems like first and second are on the same "shift fork" could be something isolated to that. Do 1st and 2nd share the same syncro? I'm foggy on the internals but I believe if you have no problems at a stop hitting other gears that it is something internal, whether shift linkage, syncros or something else. If it's all gears I'd be looking at pilot bearing, slave cylinder, the bearing on the slave(throwout?).
