Have a `93, adding a `92.

Hello

I am mainly a Oldsmbile man, but I really like the `93 Explorer we got from my Father-in-Law a couple years ago (was stolen then recovered last March, little to no damage though!) but the time has come for me to buy another one.

Today I bought my sisters `92 Explorer with a bad engine. It doesn't just SMOKE, it actually spits water out of the exhaust pipe. There is no water in the oil though. I'm thinking its a headgasket, but what are the odds that it's a cracked head instead of a HG? I wanna get this fixed, and I have another 4.0L lined up incase I need to swap it out.....but I'd like to fix THIS engine if I can. What can I expect to pay for a HG repair?

About my newest Explorer. It's a 1992 Explorer XL. It it about as 'stripped down' as you can get, I like it! Rather go over all the options it HAS, it's much more fun to say what it DOESN'T have.

My new X does NOT have the following options/features:
Power Windows
Power Locks
Power Seats
Power Mirrors
4WD
Automatic
Dual Cup Holder
Rear Window Wiper/Washer (I've never seen another without it!)
Roof Rack (how rare is THAT?)

So that means I have:
4.0L V-6
Manual EVERYTHING...incl. Transmission
2WD
1 cup Holder
and A/C

If it turns out the engine is bad.....get the 302!! not another 4.0.. ;)

This is going to be my 'commuter' and parts hauler. If I wanna go fast, I'll drive the Olds.

A few other items I DON'T have on the 92:

Lighter Visors
Running Board/GFX
