97 Explorer XLT
Hello:

I have a 1997 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0L 6cylinder. My question is I noticed recently that my Explorer won't start in the cold. When it does start, I begin to drive off and it begins to hesitate like it's not getting any gas.?? Usually once it warms up I noticed that it seems to do better and it will start right away. Any suggestions as to what the problem is.??

Thanks,
Joe

Q. If you start your explorer steping on gas pedal would that make engine run???

Becouse i had kind the same prob with a 2000 xls explorer last year and all i did was cleaning to perfection the valve on top of engine...the one that acts like a "choke" valve.... i am sorry my poor english i don't know the name in inglish for that piece.... however, doing that problem desapeared... for a year now!

Hey Joe, so what happened? did you clean or replace the IAC??? or.... something else you had to do?

Please let Us know... cheers!

What is the IAC and how hard is it to clean? That appears to be the same problem my fiance is having with her 98. I will be home in alittle over a week and if It is an easy job, i would like to clean it for her while I am home.

The IAC is located on top drivers side of the upper intake manifold just behind the throttlebody. It is a cylinder looking thing with a wire plug on one end. It is not hard to clean. Just get some carb and choke cleaner or brake parts cleaner. remove the IAC from the intake manifold and clean it.

Thanks. This looks like it will be easy enought for me to do while I am home, 15 min project?
