Ok so the explorer has been over heating rather quick. All the fluids are good and doesnt leak. I changed out the water pump and what not. What else can be done? Its almost to much to handle with it doing this.
When it over heats its hard as hell to get into gear any gear at that. Just when it over heats though which is strange to me.
And finally I was driving down the interstate last night going about 75 mph and the damn hood flew up and hit the windshield i have to admit i laughed about that but how hard is it to change out the lift things? (sorry still a little hung over so might not make sense)

the hood hinges are easy, bolt in bolt out. hardest part is going to be lining up everything so it looks good. you might want to consider replacing the latch if it didn't hold, or making sure it's closing right.

as for overheating, have you replaced the thermostat by chance? also try burping the system to get any air out of it if you replaced the antifreeze/coolant. may be some air in there taking up space.

keep us posted

ya changed the t stat yesterday drove it today and guess what still over heats
im moving from garage to the comp so it might be a little bit between messages. i can also just let it sit and it over heats. ill burp the system right now see what that does. not exactly sure on how to go about on doing that though.

TAKE THE RAD CAP OFF AND START THE TRUCK. I LIKE TO ROCK THE TRUCK AND SQUEEZE THE HOSES WATCH THE TEMP THOUGH WHEN IT HEATS TO THE T-STAT TEMP IT WILL OPEN AND THAT MAY CAUSE MORE BUBBLES. i WOULD CHECK AND SEE IF THERE IS AN OBSTRUCTION BETWEEN YOUR RESEVOUR AND RAD, OTHER THAN THAT YOU MAY NEED TO GET SOME RADIATOR FLUSH YOU MAY HAVE A BUILD UP CLOGING THE PASSAGEWAYS IN YOUR RAD.

ok ill try all that. here is how my hood looks after last night... Sorry for the cellphone pic. back out to work with the radiator with what you guys said

i'm going to say, new hood, new fender, and new hinges for the hood. you could probably do that in a few hours if that's ALL it is. i've replaced my hood and hinges byself, hardest part was holding the hood up while also bolting it into the hinge.

i recommend having 1 more person there though.

ya fender was from a accident i posted it some where. i straightened it out. but since im gonna need a new hood and the sort might as well get it all at once. ok so still no go on the over heating.

I would try the flush next then sounds like you have a blockage, sorry bout the caps at work i forget there on.

Ya im gonna do a flush this week. Oh and I got a 1994 Explorer Xlt with a blown motor for free. So I can swap the hood fender etc that I need. :)

well... if it's your radiator thats stopped up you can maybe just switch out with the parts truck. :)

....

about the burping.. i can usually tell about that on mine by whether or not the overflow tank is dry after it cools down all the way.. if it expels air when it heats up, then it should draw coolant back in when it cools, which "burps" it a bit too. Make sure the tank is full after every running until it stays full... that is to the "full cold" line anyway, i keep mine a little over that.

You did inspect / change the radiator cap?
That could cause your truck to do that... with a bad seal it'd expel water or air on warmup, and just suck air back in from around the cap when it cools.. leaving it short on coolant on the next run cycle.
A weak rad cap spring acts differently, but also can cause problems.

good luck!

^x2.

I think you can get another radiator cap at almost any place auto parts are sold. It'd be worth it to try, and if it's not that, you have a backup in case your original goes bad. I personally like the caps with the temperature gauge on them, look flashy, lol. Not sure how accurate they are though.

Just put a new(different) radiator in it. I did a flush, replaced car, replaced thermostat and seal. Fixed the overheating issue. I am going to replace my radiator anyways.

Just replace the radiator to be sure.

hey is do swap a radiator ya gotta burp it all over again.. lol

If it's fixed call it good man.

-or-

I'd get me a flashlight and look down inside there, see which one is the cleanest and use it. :)

This was my summer problem, and believe me it's very true. I replaced mine with a Motorcraft one. A good simple fix.:D

Ya got a new cap on it. Its blowing all the hot **** to my overfill tank then bubbling out of there hot as ****. It doesnt come out of the radiator its self.

might be time for that radiator.. if I'm thinking right it's the thing with the smallest pathways that can get stopped up.

Getting any air bubbles when it does that? if so there's still air trapped in the system.. that can make the t-stat do funky things.

When it's totally cold, if you pull the cap and start it, it doesn't do anything odd like pushing lots of water out does it?
