Hi there...

I got my dad a new headunit for his 2002 XLT this Christmas, and I was just wondering how you get the black dash piece that surrounds the radio and the climate controls off. I couldn't get it off by pulling, and the last thing I want to do is break something...

And is there anything else I should know about installing a headunit? I have the dash kit and wiring harness, but I've only ever installed them in G.M. cars.

Anyway, looks like you guys have a nice forum here! Thanks for the help!

Pull harder. It just snaps in. I have the best luck starting at the upper right corner using a wide screwdriver to pull with. Don't pry or you'll mark up your dash.

I used two butter knives, but I was very careful. Maybe some putty knives would work. You just have to work your way around the plastic piece.

I used a putty knife and it pops off pretty easy. As far as putting in the radio it is a snap. I got my wiring harness from Crutchfield and the wires on my Alpine head unit matched colors exactly (which was a nice suprise). Just remeber to hook up your climate and dashboard info buttons when you put everything back together......because that will piss you off when your driving down the road and realize you were a dumbass and forgot to.
