Heater Fan Speed Controller

My EB has auto climate control and it only works on high. I'm guessing that the problem is the blower motor resister... except the auto system doesnt have one... it has a fan speed contoller... which is a dealer only part and is $245. Has anyone found a cheaper alternative? I've pulled it out and cleaned the conections and still high only.
