Hi guys.. Just yesterday picked up a 2003 Explorer to replace my 98 that was stolen last week... Have a question..

This one came with the 1" tow bar package which isn't gonna quite cut it with my wifes heavy horse trailer.. I need a bar with the 2" opening..and they one that goes up under the bumper.. NOT the kind that bolts underneath it.. I want it to look factory. Called the dealer and they want $425 just for the part.. and the bastage wouldn't even give me a part # so I could look elsewhere...

Currently looking at salvage yards for a cheaper one.. Is there a place known to you guys where I could get this 2" factory hitch cheaper than my local extortionist... er.. dealer??

Any help would be appreciated..

Can you not just order a hitch online? I mean it probably won't look EXACTLY like the factory one, but it will probably do the job and will be a lot cheaper.

Here's a page that has a few hitches that will fit your explorer ranging between about $120 and $180 .. just make sure you pay attention to where it says "FITS:" (2 dr, 4 dr, sport track) http://search.cartserver.com/search...keywords=2003&keywords_2=Ford+Explorer&GO=GO!

Thx but nope.. Those type bolt underneath and A. Look bad as it looks like you have TWO hitches hanging off the rear end and B. Make the hitch almost too low to the ground. I did my last Explorer that way and regularly dragged the trailer stand when I hit bumps . Never again..
