I got it... I guess Ill need to pick up those collector gaskets. Should I be able to find em in town? Or should I order them from carparts? I have the paint (plus Im going to wrap them with some exhaust tape...ugly.. but oh well..) I have the black RTV.. so Ill go get some orange... okie doke... I think im good... except for headers... they still not here!!!

yep, collector gaskets should be easy enough to find. you may have to wait a couple days for an order to come thru because not everyone will have aluminum/copper ones in stock, but pretty much every auto parts place will be able to get them.

a little note on these: if you do a ton of wheeling and it involves crossing streams frequently, get aluminum collector gaskets. both copper and aluminum work well if you keep them dry, but I've heard that the copper ones aren't quite as resilient to sudden temp changes

Cool. Ill aim for aluminium then. Not that I do a whole lot of wheeling.. hehe. but who knows?

aahhhhhhhhhhhh yesssss

this post is pointless basically, just wanted to spread my joy with everyone.

there is nothing like the feeling of having a vehicle that works absolutely perfectly. a mechanic friend and I jacked the rig up this morning, replaced rotors, calipers, pads, repacked bearings and hubs, rotated tires, replaced leaking valve cover, header, and collector gaskets, and wrapped headers in thermo-cooltape stuff. cranked it out in about 5 hours and she absolutely puuurrrrrss now. so in answer to anyone's question about whether the RTV header gasket trick works or not... that's an affirmative (although we'll see how long it lasts).

one unpleasant surprise though... leaking head gasket. oh well, so my little nirvana was just a cruel trick that life likes to play on me regularly. motor's still under warranty though, so at least I don't get a bill.

rambling now, hope your weekend is as good as mine :)

I was a two time looser on those cardboard gaskets. Just got some alum backed gaskets from Checker and put them on last night - along with the KKM and the Chip. I forgot how anoying the leak sounded until it was gone.
I RTV'ed the block side of the gasket - I do NOT want to do this again! Next up is the cool tape for the headers.
