My engine management light is on. The Ford Garage says I need HEGO sensors changing LHS, RHS and two othersTotal parts £308.12 and then £383 to fit!!!.

I have the distinct sensation of Plonker Pulling.

What do these sensors do?? are they essential. Any way of beating off the Ford banditos by going private? where do I start??

Cheers for any help

HEGO (Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen) sensors are O2 sensors (as called on the board). I am sure that they are pulling a good one here. Did they tell you the code numbers by any chance. As it could actually be something else. Does the engine have cold start problems? or uneven erratic idle? Any rattles from the engine cam chains? At a pure guess the light came on and the codes says lean mix on banks 1 and 2. If so then the fix is more likely to be the OOM12 kit is needed (do a search to find more info). If we know the actual codes then we can go from there.
