!997 Mercury Mountaineer
I am a new member to your forum after purchase of a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer 5.0 AWD with 160000 miles and I know the history and owners of said vehicle as distant family. I was having a few questions about it and joined this and a couple other " Ranger- Expo " forums. I'm in my mid 40's and have built quite a few vehicles including but not limited to an '83 289 C-4 powered ranger with '66 289 fairlane manifolds, an ' 88 5.0 5 speed powered '85 ranger with Tri-Ys, Weiand X-celerater single plane, Holley 650 D/P, Motorsport B cam and Cobra rockers etc., 302 '76 Pinto, 327 '72 Chevy Luv, A couple of Vegas, both 400 and 350 powered as well as 11 or 12 full sized Broncos and a few F 150, 250 4WD trucks. I sure wish I had a computer and a site like this when I built my first couple of Rangers in the mid 90's ! Would've saved me a lot of time and hassle back then. I thank you for the opportunity to have such a diverse wealth of knowledge available to me, and will not only look for answers to my own questions, but if I can offer any tech advice from my past experiences, I will. Thank you all again! Time to start reading now, Later!

I had a 1997 5.0 Explorer for a few years. I originally bought it because the sports car (brand withheld due to embarrassment) had a power steering pump, clutch, and fuel pump go out in the same day. Picked up that Ex cheap cause it had high miles on it (200,000) I drove that thing for about 4 years and put another 120'000 miles on it, never had to crack a seal on the motor or tranny. P. S. that motor sounds GREAT with true dual exhaust on it. People will look for the hot rod they hear comin.

Welcome guys.
