Hello Everyone,
My Name is Chris and I am in the middle of a great project w/ my 04 XLT that Includes a 3.5 lift. I am wondering if anyone know what problems people are having in lifting late model explorers. We have assembled a great team together to not only design but also machine the parts on premise. We are making progress but lets just say we are "Learning alot" from what not to do. I'm just curious if anyone else has tried and what failures they had to see what else we should not try. :) hope to chat with you all soon

Welcome! Why are you making a kit? How much has it cost so far?

yea i was thinking of buying a kit and replicating it... since i work in a machine shop... i would beef the hell out of it.... what material were u thinking of using... i myself would 304 or 316 stainless... kinda pricey but worth the strength and corrosion resistance... next you would have to look at all of the components of a lift kit the ahrdest part i thin would be the lower control arms... engineering a set of thoes would be a headache i dont quite know if steering geometry comes into play or not but thats something t keep in mind... as far as the back goes you hve a few options... 1.shackles, 2.bigger leaf springs, 3. add a leaf, 4. flip the leaf spring mounts soo they mount on the top of ur axle and not the bottom, 5. block th hell out of it.... some of these ideas are better that the others depends on how much time money and effort u want to put into it...

how much lift are u looking for????

if ur looking ofr a lot of lift u might be better off doing a sas...

but the balls in ur court the possibility's are endless its all up to u how involved u get... \

hope i can help
