Hello from a fun wintery Minnesota

I live in Souther Minnesota and have a Grand Am. My bro was fortunate enough to snag a 1999 XLT off Craigslist for $600, $400 later he has an awesome truck. One very awful 2 days of winter last year I asked him if I could borrow it, and even with the gas mileage I hated getting back in my Grand Am that winter.

So....

This summer and $1200 later, I snagged a much rustier 97 XLT with the blown SOHC and here I am with a nice rusty truck with 200,000 miles

I have already used a couple posts on this forum to help me with my adventure of replacing my rear shackles (which were completely rusted through) and came back now when I figured I need to change my Diff and tranny fluid.

I'm sure I'll find the answer somewhere on this great forum.

PS: Forgot to mention the other day that I found out that my explorer is better than I could ever hope for after I saw car after car go sliding by be and here I was still able to take off from the stop sign in the snow and ice. I can't believe I made the first 5 winters without it

Welcome to this forum! I had a 1990 Grand Am a while ago. That thing was a money pit. I had to keep fixing it every month until it wasn't worth keeping anymore. I still have a bunch of parts, tools, and books that I bought for repairing it. What year is your Grand Am?

I have a 1998 Grand Am, but unlike you I actually love my car and now also love my Explorer.

I have all the service manuals for my car. I bought it from a Texas with 60k and absolutely no rust .

I knew the fun GM 60 degree 3.1 intake gasket was going to go out, so when it did I got a nice 40k 3.4 out of a 2003 Grand Am. So not counting regular maintenance (brakes, tires, etc) I only have about $2000 into it and it now has 160k, so I've gotten a nice 100k miles out of it, and plan for many more

Wow, sorry for talking about my Grand Am so much on an Explorer forum...

welcome to the forums, you will come to like the ex alot more when you decide to start building it. have fun driving it and you will find a lot of information just have to do some searching

We have an all makes & models section where you could post anything you want about any vehicle. The GM V6 engines like you are pretty good. The Grand Am I had was a 2.5L 4 cylinder. I once had an 84 Skyhawk with a 2.0L that was similar to my Grand Am. I had an 85 Trans Am with a V8. It was pretty powerful. Since then, I've moved on to owning Ford vehicles. I had an 89 Mercury Sable many years ago, and still have the engine along with a bunch of parts. I presently own 5 Aerostar vans.

i have a grand ham also and it's a money pitt but the old lady likes it, i still like my 88 astro 350 efi better. but any make is as good as the up keep on them slowly fazing out my gm's again, own 2ex's, 2 rangers, 1 84 bronco 2 with 69 bronco drive train and frame being built now and a few others
