I joinded the site to perhaps find someone that can give me insight as to why my 93 explorer 4x4 suddenly lost overdrive and reverse. I had an emergency on a very cold day and ran pretty hard right out of the chute. 10 minutes later as I changed freeways and slowed down, I lost od. when I left my destination, I realized I had also lost reverse.
I"m one of those shadetree mechanics that can usually figure things out. I was going to try to get to parts store for a code check ( no check engine lights have come on yet) , but really dont want to drive if I can avoid.

Any ideas

Welcome to to the site where many otherz have the same problems with there 1st gen trans 2. If i woulda checked this site out before hand, I would have saved a lot more money by buying a 95' and up Explorer with the much more bulletproof transmission. You should be able to find everything you need here, .but I think that your bands might be completly burned out...?? :us:

Welcome. Not much you can do at this point once the internal gears have been comprimised. You'll need to open the transmission up and repair the gears/shaft etc. or whatever is damaged. Besides that, you can swap the transmission for a used unit but obviously there's no assurance it won't share a similar fate unless you upgrade to a newer transmission. Try looking here on more details auto forum search to find out the compatatibility issues between drivetrains etc.

Ahh thats great helping,
