2003 Ford Explorer
Hello from Elk Grove CA!

My Father in Law gave my wife and I a 2003 Explorer (4X4) in February. The vehicle had 160,000 and the 4.6 engine. Appearance wise it's in really good condition. Good paint and very clean interior…After a couple of months I heard valve train noise.

Turns out the timing chain tensioner failed and the chain grinded off a bunch of Aluminum into the engine; caused one valve lifter to fail. When my mechanic dropped the oil pan the oil pump pick up was full of aluminum…

We really love the vehicle so we ended up putting an Jasper rebuilt engine in the Explorer.

Since I have a fresh engine in the Explorer I figured I join a forum to keep up on things.

Last weekend I put on some new rotors. The old ones were warped.
I plan to replace the Struts (they’ve never been replaced) in the fall and the axle shafts a little later (my father in law sealed them with silicone when the CV joint tore).

While replacing the rotors I noticed the ball joint cover is torn and it appears the A arm is a piece that you’d have to replace as a whole unit.

Anyone ever worked on the A arm?

Thanks for any suggestions.
