98 Explorer Sport
Hey everyone

How's it going, My name is Brent, i'm 21 and going to michigan state university.
Just bought a 98 explorer sport last week with 130k on it. I haven't had a car for the past 7 months because i sold my mazda 626 after having the tranny shat out on me on several occasions, but i did purchase a kawasaki KLR 650 this past summer, which has supplied me with much enjoyment up unto these cold sloppy wet days in michigan.

So anyway, i used to have a 91 explorer sport which i drove since i was about 12 until i went to college, and i just missed it soo much that i had to get another... plus i needed something to tow my yamaha superjet 650, and my hobie 16' , i like my toys~

The explorer seems pretty clean in and out, it was a company lease for the first 3 years of her life. I just lubed the slip yoke and was pleased to get rid of that little bump stop. The tran fluid is looking a bit dirty and i'm anxious to get cleaned that out, i've been on this site everyday since i bought the car and am learning more and more.

nice sport u got there u plan on doing mods to it

wow that is a beautiful truck... it reminds me of when mine was new *tear* the paint so clan and sparkly... ahh o well.. i like her better muddy anyhow.. but any way back to the point.. be careful with the trans.. cuz if it was never taken care of and u flush it u can run into some serious trans troubles.. if its real dirty i would just let well enough alone.. if u really not sure i would consult a technician first... and maybe even have them do it.. this way if there is trouble later they are responsable not u...

Thanks for the nice welcomes

I would like to do some customizing once i acquire the funds.

I am a bit concerned about what i should do about the tran fluid though. I don't think i should take it to any quick lube shop and have them flush it with a machine because that will probably just knock something loose and give me a major problem... i believe that's what happend with my 626... i wouldn't mind attempting to change the fluid and filter myself once it gets warmer out, even though i've never done it i'm sure i could pull it off with the help of this site. However maybe my best bet would be to throw down some money and consult a technician so that i do have some insurance if stuff starts to hit the fan.

You can tell from this pic that the fluid is quite dirty~
