I just recently baught a 92 Explorer, Eddie Bauer, 2wd, auto trans. Well I dont know very much about cars but there is something Im not sure of about this truck. It is said that its a 2WD, but I took of the front peice to the dash. I found a connector wire that looks like it would go to where the button is placed for switching to 4wd. Now is that connector always there 4x4 or not or is it actually a 4X4.
Another thing is, right under the brake release lever there is a toggle switch. I have no idea what its for. Any suggestions? Hope anyone can help thanks.

Welcome!

Alot of times Ford will put the wiring for an option there whenever you don't have it. Just makes it easier to make the harness since they will all be the same.

The easiest way to see if its actually 4WD is to look underneath and check for a front driveshaft and axle.

The switch may have been added for extra lighting or something. Best bet is to follow the wires.

I agree with IamTodd as for the switch under the brake release could be a kill switch do you have an alarm?

Thanks for the reply guys. As for an alarm, I dont have one but I think there used to be one in it. I will follow the wiring to see where it leads.
