- 2004 Explorer Sport Trac
Hi everyone! I'm brand new to this site, but have already found some interesting information here.
I just bought a white 2004 Sport Trac about a month ago. When I test drove it, all seemed good, so I purchased it.When I got it home, it started making timing chain noises, but since the dealership did not offer me a warranty, but instead sold it as-is, I didn't have much recourse. I had it towed to their mechanic, who replaced the timing chain tensioners. The noise went away up to 2000 RPM, but began to creep back in at 2800. 2 different mechanics listened to it, felt that it was still ok to drive, so I did.
I replaced the shocks, brakes, oil and stabilizer bar links, so it handled much better.
Last week, on my way to work, the timing chain snapped, the engine died and I had some choices to make.
I found a good place that offered engine replacement (60-ish thousand mile engine), free towing and a loaner car for $2199. Not bad, all things considered.
So, they tell me I should have my truck back this Friday. I'm looking forward to having it for the Memorial Day weekend, and given all the stuff done to it, I'm looking forward to it being a great truck!
I just ordered some stuff to give it an even cooler look - new headlights, a black bull bar, fog lights, black nerf bars and black door handles. Those will be fun to install and even better to look at when installed.
I'll post pics (before and after) soon.
Good to be part of this site/forum!
