Welcome. You picked a good place to get advice about keeping your Explorer running. The forums here have saved me thousands and thousands of dollars over the past 20 years.

Thanx for your warm welcome. I am keeping my 2008 Explorer until the wheels fall off. The new cars have too much technology that take the driving experience away and make the drivers rely on technology at the expense of good driving common sense. I have learned a lot from my ownership of my Explorer and am glad to share, just ask.

Thanx

I feel the same as you for the most part. I replaced my 3rd gen 2002 XLT with a 4th gen 2010 Mountaineer because I didn't like what Ford did with the 5th gens. Front wheel drive and not basing the vehicle on a modified truck chassis and drive train was a major reason to pass on buying a 5th gen. The final reason for buying a 4th gen was finding out Ford designed the water pump internal in 3.5L V6 engines for the ones installed in front wheel drive vehicles. A failed water pump in these motors can catastrophically dump coolant into the oil pan and take out the engine in short order. This has been an issue for the 5th gens and many have seen this happen.

Welcome.
