- 1994 Ford Ranger XLF
Good morning ladies and gentlemen.
Long time Ford owner. Still have a 1994 Ranger XLT 2WD that I keep around for moving friends, tailgates, and trips to the big box stores like Lowes and Home Depot. I've gotten into car camping the past few years and love being with friends in the woods and at campgrounds, but I use my daily driven sedan with a roof rack to haul myself and my gear all over the Midwest. Every time I come back I ponder if I should get an early 2000's to 2010 truck or SUV as a my weekend warrior. Monday through Friday my 35 mpg Elantra works great, but it doesn't do so well on my weekends. I don't use the Ranger as it's a standard cab and after about a 3 hour drive I want fall out and stretch for 20 minutes. We're both older now and I would kill for the ability to recline my seat and another inch of legroom in the old truck.
I'm here for research, pictures, and stories before I pull the trigger and get something that suits my camping and outdoor needs better. The Gen 3 and Gen 4 Explorers just seem reasonable in price for my needs. I know the Gen 3 and Gen 4 Explorers don't get much aftermarket support, but I want to see what people have done with them. My camping trips just deal with forest roads, backcountry roads, and that last drive I'm going to call a trail I think a 2 inch lift and good AT tires would be all the mods I really want to do to a rig.
Anyway I hope to learn much and you don't mind me asking a few questions at times.
