HELP 4WD does't work

When I press the button on the dash to engage the 4wd, nothing happens czn anyone help me with this problem?

There are many many threads on this problem, I was just now reading one on the 15 most recent posts list. Try doing a search on auto hubs, 4x4, or transfer case. I'm sure you'll find much discussion on your problem.

The same thing happened to my sister's 93'. Call the dealer. It might also be an electrical connection.

There are a few things it could be. It could be electrical, it could be the hubs, or it could (and probably is) the transfer case shift motor. I am in the process of replacing this (at least I will be once I buy the new one) It's a $400+ for someone to do it for you or a $100-$250 job if you do it yourself. Take it to the dealer or a shop and let them figure out what the problem is. If you can fix it yourself than save yourself the money and do it!

Hey WAIT!!!!

Hey, did Ford tell you the motor was bad? You are correct there are several different reasons for the symptom, a lot of the time they say it's the shift motor it can be the motor solenoid or actuator. On my truck the same thing was happening and i both pushed the little white button on the 4WD control unit in the drivers rear fenderwell compartment and took the cover off the motor actuator/solenoid and bent the 4? electronic contacts out enough to make sure they had enough pressure to make a good conection on the little circuit * sp board. Anyway, hope this or the hubs are your answer , those motors are expensive.

Yeah the motor was bad. The shop I took it to took the motor out of the transfer case and tried to get in to move. I moved a little bit but it's just burnt out. I guess these things happen at 145,000 miles on stock drivetrain.

Thanks! I am taking the truck to a buddies garage, he has a hoist, so I'm going to check the motor, Idiconnected the box in the rear fender and pressed the little white button, the LED blinked 4 times,Somewhere else on this site someone said if the light blinks the motor is bad. I'm just going to see If I can free it up the snow is coming tonight!!!!! only 8-10 inches but its better than nothing!
