My 97 explorer died while driving the other day. Couldn't hear the fuel pump coming on, so I pulled the fuel tank and replaced the pump. Fuel pump still not coming on. What should I check next ?? Already checked the fuses and relay.... Thanks, Dan

Intertia switch in pass kick panel?

Now that you did all the hard work replacing parts, how about do an easy thing and using a meter to check and see if there is voltage going to the pump AND that it is properly grounded. As suggested above, an easy check is at the inertia switch and just after it.

Well my stupidity is now in check. Went to check the voltage at the inertia switch and the wiring harness connector wasn't fully connected. Snapped it together and the car started right up.

Thanks to the 2 gentleman that replied to help me out with this problem !!! Dan :)

A learning moment...

Not stupidity... We ALL have overlooked something like this in the past... And probably will do it again in the future...

To that end I attached a red light bulb to the output side of the inertia switch to use it as a quick indicator that I am getting power through the switch and going to the fuel pump...

And I did this why??? Because I triggered the inertia switch and did not look at it until right before I started to drop the tank...
