wazzup!
1. I was just driving along about 20mph and like something just gave and suddenly no "Drive". shifted to 2nd and could drive normal and got it home. Put it in reverse and barely works.
2. I have a 99 Ranger xlt supercab 4wd 4.0 V6 (OHV according to Vin) and according to door stamp Transmission Code is D. My Ex has same transmission Code D but a SOHC...ive done lots of reading and appears to be same transmission...that being said??
3. can i just do an even swap from the Ranger to the Explorer? If so, anything to look for or change< fix while im doing this. Please help - have to get this done this week..thanks

they both should be 5r55e's. you can swap them, but you might need to change the neutral safety switch (black box on drivers side with the shifter are going threw it), and the wire harness

Both have the same trannies. (5R55E) You can swap them if need be.

wow thanks Vroom, i didnt realize i had gotten a response that day i posted. So changing the box and harness?? do they just unbolt, unplug etc?? is there anything i need to check before i put the ranger trans in? like a bushing or something - ive never done this in a ford and been a while since ive changed a trans

---i noticed your a Canuck..any thoughts on the Stanley Cup? its the first time all the Original Six is in in a while so youve got choices...Go Wings!

the harness just unclips. there some are a part of the engine harness, and others unclip right around where the bell housing bolts to the motor. that will be one difference. the other difference is in the connectors on the trans itself. once again, you will have to look them over when its out (this is just being on the safe side). as for the neutral safety switch, it has to bolts (10mm i think) that bolt it to the trans, and one (18mm i think) that hold the shifter arm in. you might also want to make sure that is the same. chances are it will be. i have only had one problem with the shifter arm, and that was when i used a trans from a awd aerostar into a 96 explorer. also, if you notice the truck doesnt want to start, or the reverse lights dont come on in reverse, you will have to adjust the neutral safety switch by loosening the two 10mm bolts that hold it in, and turning it slightly.
as for hockey, believe it or not, i dont really follow it. unless the flyers are playing. cause if they lose, i rub it in to another member on here. and she hates that! lol :D
