I did the passenger side no problem, i loosened the adjuster screw and the drum came off, but no matter what i do i cant get the drivers side off. I tried the adjuster screw both ways fully and it wont come off, what can i do to get it off?

hammer hard

2 screw drivers on each side (180 deg from each other) and pry while having someone "pop" the drum with a hammer.

If at all fails snip the spring retaining pins from the back of the backing plate and go buy new ones in a harware kit.

Ditto the above... If you have bottomed out the star adjuster and can rotate the drum easily (with brakes off and in neutral), but the drum still won't pull off then the shoes have worn a grove into the drum. At this point you are working against the springs and will need to go SVO's route if prying won't get the job done.

what do i need to snip ths springs? i put the drum back on i will fix em after work. hammer no work, bigger hammer no work. swearing...no work. already got spring kit. when i pull on it it feels like it is caught on something, it comes out a bit but feels like it is attached to an elastic so it must be stuck on pads. ill cut the springs and see it that does it

I have an air hammer, MUAHAHAHAA.

Just pry with 2 drivers, thats the best way. You can loosen the shoe grip with the adjuster. If you look on the back of the drum assembly, there is a rubber seal covering a slit. Inside the slit, there is a cam crank, like a little gear. You can turn this with a flathead. You wll need to stick a nail wth a head on it to pop the gear lock and hold it back. If you look at the other side, you will see what I am talking about. That will relieve some shoe pressure. Funny, my 94 did the same thing to me, on the same side even! lol.

i did the shoe pressure release, after i put it back togethter to go back to work i did it again today and it came off way easier, i think the heat built up or the shoes finally released or something, but the inside of the drums were mega scratched and gouged

Glad to hear it worked out ok... I remember when I did my '93's first brake job @ 38K. The front pads were due (about 1/8" left), while the rears shoes looked new

the shoes themselves were not actually that bad, but the drums were way shot

Did you get new drums or have them machined?

Hey Jocky,
I moved this thread over here since the emergency part is over, and so the discussion can still continue.
Thanks.

np robb, i got new drums, the old ones were fubared wat too much to machine. i still get cost+10% when i buy parts cause i used to work at the place, so i usually buy new
