- 2002 Explorer XLT
I have a 2002 ford explorer XLT. today was the third time in a week that the vehicle has not started for me. Everytime it happens, my dashboard gauges start going crazy and I hear some clicking from under the dash above my feet. My first attemt to fix was to have the battery tested. The battery in the SUV was going bad so I bought a new battery. I installed the battery and cleaned all of the connections real good to make sue I was getting a great connection. A friend of mine was helping me and he had a volt meter to test the new battery to see if the starter was putting a load on the battery. When we hooked the new battery up, the alarm went off so I reset it and waited for the gauges to finish starting up. The gauges acted normal this time so I turned the key to start the SUV and I heard a click and then lost all my power accept for the two alarm lights. After about 3-5 minutes, the power would come back on so I tried again and the same thing happened. We feel like it has to be either a starter relay or the alarm box shutting everything down. Do you have any ideas?
