help! has anyone ever had this problem

i have a 1993 explorer 4.0 engine . this model doesnt have any E.G.R. valve . the problem i have is i keep getting a check engine light. its driving me bonkers , it keeps going on and off all the time . when its put on a computer it shows an e.g.r. code , like i said this model doesnt have one on it .

what can i do besides put black tape over the check engine light.

I would try some gumout throttlebody cleaner. I used it on my explorer b/c of the same problem. I haven't had the light come on for months now.

I thought the 93 was the first year for egr

nope im not sure when they started the egr sensor

i know my 93 doesnt have a egr sensor or a Knock sensor

usually when your Check Engine light goes off and on all the time it usually a sign of a O2 sensor,

althought there rather expensive to replace especially for rangers
i went to Ford lookin for them,, and they told me $112 each, and i know my 93 ranger has 2 of them
so i guess im gunna live with my check engine light, atleast for another month till i sell it
