2001 Ford Explorer Sport
Hello everyone. I am currently an owner of a 2001 explorer sport. Now I'm lookin for fender flares for my truck and so far I'm pretty certain that the fender flares made for the front of a sport trac would work on my truck because the front clip is pretty much the same. Now for my big question. Would the fender flares for the rear match up close.

So I was wondering if you guys could help me out with the measurements below since I don't have a sport trac that I can use as a reference. And if you guys have any ideas on what to use for fender flares that would be awesome. Thanks guys.

It looks close but the distance from he back of the wheel well to the back of the truck appears shorter on your truck. Plus, the fuel door on the st is in front of the wheel well. I'm not sure if it would work.

The problem is they don't make the pocket flares anymore or any flares for that matter, you have to find a dealer that has leftover stock. I'll take some measurements tomorrow for ya.

Are we talking pre runner type flares like what mcneil has or bushwacker type?

I'm geussing bushwacker.

I'm not really sure to tell you the truth. I really want flares to help with tire coverage for when I go mudding because I'm doing a sas next month so i'll be going to 35's. If you look closely you can see some rust starting on the wheel well so I want to sand it down and seal it off and then cover it with a fender flare. I would try to make my own but i think they'll turn out really ugly and inconsistent.

Check out the prerunner style fenders, they meke flared out quarter panels too. Google prerunner Explorer.

But fiberglass breaks easy.

We're in as bad a shape as you when it comes to fender flares. They're hard to come by.

well looks like i might have to make my own. i'm afraid that its gonna be real hard to keep them looking all the same. Besides the guy that has that huge sport trac on 38's with those custom fender flares. Do you know of anyone else that might have done something similar in the ranger/explorer world?

Probably a few in Iceland. Not sure if there's any members on here but I'm sure there are Icelandic 4x4 pages that might have a little info. Those would be the kind of sites I would go to for ideas on custom fender flares. Iceland is famous for their legally mandated fender flares and their awesome 4x4 trucks.

they claim that you can order flares to be made from shops in iceland but i'm afraid of how much it will cost lol

Are you going ful width axles on your SAS? If not you shouldn't have much to cover.

no i'm not going full width and i bet a 2" coverage fender flare would be perfect. But they don't make squat for my truck and i'm not the best with fiber glass lol

Go though the SAS buil thread registry and check out what people are using for there's, there's a couple '01-03 Ex Sports with SAS conversions.

I cant hardly find any 01-03 sport sas. All i know of is damarble, and 21robie (white explorer sport). Otherwise I can't find anything else. My main focus is to get the sas done in april and then after all the kinks are worked out and its sitting at its permanent stance then i'll do fender flares. But i want to kind of know where i'm going to start with these things before hand.

I have a feeling once you get into the SAS process, the fenders are going to become a very low priority. Are you doing the swap yourself? If you aren't comfortable building your own fender flares, you might want to have a shop do the swap. Bad fenders won't kill you, a bad axle build might.

No i'll b fine with the swap. I used to b a custom metal fabricator and my buddy works for a stainless steel shop near me so i have him making most of my parts. The only custom made stuff really is the front cross member, the hangers, and the brackets and sleeves for the steering box. I would never take it to a shop because it would b outrageously expensive and most shops near me won't even consider doing it. I'll b just fine

That's good. I don't know about the flares, though. I've thought a bit about it myself for when I get to the solid axle project but don't really have any solutions, yet. I like to keep a "like it came that way" kind of look but know I can't form steel into perfect fenders and fiberglass would last a couple months. Nobody makes anything, either. I was going to start looking around at Land Rover, Blazer and Jeep flares and see if there's something I could modify. Let us know your solution; many will be interested.
