2002 Ranger FX4
My 02 ranger with the sohc 4.0L has been leaking oil bad from the rear of the engine. I finally decided to fix it. I pulled the tranny and I think the previous owner had attempted to put a seal in before I got it. However I think he put it in backwards. Does anybody have a picture of how one goes in? I would greatly appreciate it.

I don't have a picture handy, but the rear main seal should be an open sided donut.

The open side of the donut goes in towards the "wet".

So, when installed, the outside of the seal should be flush with the flange all the way to the crankshaft.

It's also really easy to damage those seals trying to put them in with just a hammer or something.
