1st my vehicle...
'93 XLT 5 speed, power everything, AC, Hypertech, K&N
The story begins...
I recently went into Denver (about 30mi at highway speed) to go to a store. When leaving the store (about 45min) the XLT started fine but immediately started to bog and all gauges "dumped" as if the ignition had turned off. The engine settled down and everything seemed fine so I proceeded home, using a different route and averaging about 85 MPH. No problems on the way home. About 1 hr after getting home, I headed out again. I got about 2 blocks from home when the XLT died as if the ignition had been shut off. After about 5-10 minutes it reluctantly started. I headed home. Disconnected the battery and removed the Hypertech module. After driving around the block several times everything seemed OK so I continued on my errands. A couple of times while out, the engine bogged a little but continued to run, so it's not the Hypertech module.
I haven't seen the problem since but have been keeping the speed below 70 and driving no more than 10 miles from home. Being paranoid isn't a fun way to live!!!!
I've been trying to get more symptoms. The only thing I've noticed is VERY strange. The first time (and only the first time) I let out the clutch (in any forward gear, reverse has no effect) after starting the engine the volt meter dips suddenly, as if there is a short.
What I've tried and what's been suggested...
I've replaced the fuel filter, cleaned the K&N and the MAF elements.
Checked all vacuum hoses and electrical connections.
A friend suggested that it might be the Oxygen sensors.
Does anyone know what might be the problem??
Thanks
Grant
