HELLO EVERY I AM NEW TO POSTING ON HERE SO I AM NOT SURE IF I PORTED IN THE RIGHT AREA

I have a 1995 ford explorer 4.0, 2 wheel drive. the other day I was driving it got out for awhile then went to start it up but it would not start, I went to start it and the key would just turn the ignition it would not click or anything. then i had it towed home. messed with the fuses cleaned the battery and it started. so the next day i went some where and it happened again, had it towed home let it sit for awhile, went to start it to see if it would work, but it sputtered like it did not want to start, once it did it made a grinding noise and started up. It does have a after market kill switch. Has anyone ever had this problem? What it could be? Or where I should even start??

You say that after you messed with the battery and fuses it started. Were your cables and battery corroded? Maybe the battery cables are bad. The cables could be corroded inside the plastic covering.

Check to make sure that the positive cable is tight at the starter, and that the smaller wire on the starter is good. Check to see if the negative cable is grounded well.

sounds like a battery cable/connection problem. get the battery tested. if okay, i think you might need to replace your battery cables. i'm guessing cables as you indicated when it happens you don't even get a click, but if they're good then in could be your starter solenoid.
