If anyone can help me on this, I would appreciate it. I've been stuck for hours on this and I'm pretty sure it (and I) will just snap soon.

The rear view mirror on my '99 sport has the autodimmer and autolights features on it too. I need to remove it since I'm trying to sneak an led guage in it. Like this person did

I have read the other posts on mirror removal, but mine seems more complex. There is plastic around the base plate. I could remove the lower portion easily. But the upper portion won't come off, so I can not slide it up (with the clip depressed by my homemade tool).

How does the small rectangular plastic shaft above the baseplate and the upper plastic clip-like trim get unclipped?

I took some pics to show where I am stuck.

i figured it out

ok. I figured it out. I had to use excessive force to remove the plastic pieces from the top - both the rectangular piece and then the plastic clip on the top of the glass mount, in that order. Then I wedged a thin homemade tool as I show above and it depressed the tabs on the glass mount.

Now I've split open the mirror casing with two tiny screwdrivers and a very patient father. Fitting my digital display inside isn't easy. There is not much space cause the circuit board inside the mirror is huge and takes up most of the space. I'll post more pics soon.
